In the central promenade of Gràcia in Barcelona, we find Casa Milà or La Pedrera a union between fantasy and functionality that make this architectural work an essential visit. It is here where Antoni Gaudí culminated his career, conceiving a modernist building suited to the new social needs, never forgetting his main source of inspiration: nature and organic forms. Pere Milà's commission to build a residential building gave the opportunity to Antoni Gaudí, between 1906 and 1912, to make one of his most complete works come true. Occupying an entire chamfer of the Passeig de Gràcia de l'Eixample in Barcelona, the architect built a building of surprising modernist style, organized around two interior patios that provide ventilation and light to the floors.
The protagonism of the curved and sinuous forms in La Pedrera is resounding, both outside and inside. The facade of Casa Milà is the sea in motion, where the waves play with the wrought iron seaweed that serves as a grating to the balconies. The large blocks of stone are a kind of skin that covers the skeleton of a building freed from load walls. La Pedrera is, in fact, the derogatory nickname with which the house was popularly called by the inhabitants of a Barcelona that were left speechless before modern Gaudinian forms.
Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1984, Casa Milà allows you to visit three spaces: dreamlike attic rooms, structured with brick catenary arches; the roof, where the chimneys remember the silhouettes of warriors among the dunes of the desert, and finally a period floor.
